‘If you can meet success and failure and treat them both as impostors, then you are a balanced man, my son’
Rudyard Kipling
Dear Parents,
Through the regular assemblies that we have within Upper Prep each week, we have been talking about the importance of our three C’s (Compassion, Companionship and Conversation) and the role they play in our everyday life. Alongside this, we have been explaining the role our character strengths (Teamwork, Kindness, Love of Learning, Responsibility, Positive Choices and Grit) play and how they help to form our character.
Academic challenges have been a theme across the week, in particular within the Maths Department where the pupils have been hard at work solving the FOBISIA Code Breaking Challenges. We look forward to seeing how well we have performed with these challenges against other FOBISIA schools.
Nations Day rehearsals have been taking place and as always, it has been excellent to see the range of performances that stem from the wonderfully diverse community that we have. The early signs are that it is going to be another impressive Nations Day on the 16th October.
Many members of Year 8 have been applying for the position of Pengawas, (our equivalent position of a Prep School Prefect). They have submitted an application outlining why they feel they are suited to the role and are currently attending interviews with members of the Prep Leadership Team and Mrs Baxter. They have conducted themselves very well and many of them have put forward strong reasons for being selected.
Focus has also been on the upcoming Residential Trips, which we are all thoroughly looking forward to. The opportunity to learn beyond the classroom brings out different skills within the children and helps develop those vitally important character strengths mentioned above.
This weekend we have the Johor Cup and Liga Suparimau taking place in College for which I wish all those competing for the College the very best of luck.
Finally, to those within our community celebrating the Mid Autumn Festival, I hope you thoroughly enjoy any celebrations you have.

Cracking the Code: FOBISIA Code Breaking Challenge
This week, pupils from Year 4 through to Senior School have been putting their mathematical thinking and code-breaking skills to the test as part of the annual FOBISIA Code Breaking Challenge.
What started in Mathematics lessons quickly became a whole-school challenge! Pupils have been working their way through increasingly difficult codes and puzzles, testing their ability to spot patterns, think logically, persevere and, perhaps most importantly, think outside the box.
This year’s challenge has certainly tested everyone. The infamous Level 4 codes have had pupils, and more than a few teachers, scratching their heads and asking, “How on earth are we supposed to crack this one?” The determination to find the solution, however, has been fantastic to see.
The challenge has also extended well beyond the Mathematics classroom. Pupils have continued working on the codes at home, in the boarding houses and even during registration. It has been wonderful to see pupils discussing ideas with one another, sharing strategies and refusing to give up when a code proved particularly stubborn.
We are now eagerly awaiting the results and hoping that all of this hard work will see MCM improve on our placing from last year.
A huge congratulations to all the pupils who took part, and especially to those who managed to crack their way through the various levels. Your perseverance, creativity and problem-solving skills have been fantastic to see.

A Heartfelt Thank You from Chichester House
Thank you to all our parents and pupils for making this year’s Chichester Charity Day such a wonderful success! The children had a fantastic time playing games with their friends, all while raising money for a brilliant cause. We are delighted to share that all the money raised will be donated directly to our school sponsored charities. Your generosity, enthusiasm, and support make events like this possible.
