Dear Parents,
We have continued to focus on our core values and character strengths in assemblies this week, imparting to the children the importance of being an upstanding member of our community across all facets of school life.
This has linked well with all those in Year 8 who have had Pengawas interviews, as these core values and character strengths are what we are looking for within our pupil body to act as leaders. It has been impressive to listen to their thoughts and ideas not only about how they can add value to daily life, but also how they can bring new initiatives to what we do.
While our sporting programme has been slightly curtailed this week, Drama rehearsals for Grossbusters, (our Year 5 and 6 play) are coming along really well. Equally, the Art department is getting ready to launch the annual Master’s Art Competition, while Music auditions for Bunga Raya and the Half-term Concert have concluded.
We were treated to a fabulous Vocal Recital this week on Monday in the Theatre, with children across the Prep School and Year 9 offering up a wonderful afternoon of song, with solo and duet performances across different musical genres bringing a delightful variety to the event.
This coming week also sees the launch of the Silver Junior Duke programme for Year 4, an exciting opportunity to build on the skills they learnt in Year 3 when they were challenged to complete the Bronze Junior Duke programme.
Thank you for your support when driving onsite in adhering to the one way system that is in place, it is greatly appreciated.
Looking ahead, the weekend brings with it plenty of sporting action, while the College will also be hosting an Open Morning on Saturday.
Next week the children in Upper Prep will be enjoying their residential trips to multiple different locations across Malaysia, from as far afield as Langkawi, to opportunities closer to Marlborough College such as Riders Lodge.

FOBISIA Code Breaking Challenge
Last week, pupils across Marlborough College Malaysia took part in the annual FOBISIA Code Breaking Challenge, and this year’s competition was a fantastic showcase of perseverance, collaboration and problem-solving.
Our pupils really got stuck into the challenge, working together to crack increasingly difficult codes and refusing to give up when they encountered problems. It was wonderful to see them sharing ideas, testing different approaches and supporting one another as they worked towards solutions. A number of our beaks also took part for the first time this year, adding to the sense of excitement and community surrounding the challenge.
The competition continues to grow, with 103 international schools taking part this year. A new feature for 2026 was the introduction of categories based on the number of pupils at each school, allowing schools to compete against others of a similar size. Marlborough College Malaysia competed in the 501–1,500 pupil category.
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Marlborough College Malaysia were the winners of our category and finished an outstanding third overall across all categories! This is an amazing achievement and a wonderful reflection of the enthusiasm, determination and mathematical thinking demonstrated by our pupils.
A huge congratulations to every pupil who participated. Whether you solved one code or worked your way through the most challenging problems, your persistence and teamwork made this a hugely successful event. We are incredibly proud of you!
