15th May 2026

Dear Parents,

I will use this newsletter throughout the year to keep you informed of activities, trips and other events that are happening around the College.  It is worthwhile bookmarking the news page of the website, as this is where you will see more detail and some photos of these items, such as the Outreach afternoon.

We are proud to share that, following on from the recent article about the Global Economics Competition, run by the Singapore Wealth Club, Henry in the Lower Sixth was awarded overall runner-up in the competition. In the final, each team had to present its 5-minute video, and then face a series of questions from the panel of judges about why they had chosen their particular topic and why it was of importance to them. Henry’s video looked at the disparity in responses to natural disasters between an advanced economy like the US vs a less economically developed country like Haiti.

Henry was praised by the judges for his decision to work independently – he was the only finalist who was not working in a team of 4 and was awarded first prize for Creativity and Innovation, in addition to the overall runner-up position. As well as a trophy, he received $350 SGD of vouchers.

Last weekend 63 of the Shell year group completed their Bronze International Award Practice Adventurous Journey. They spent a productive day in school learning essential skills, including knot tying, basic first aid, and navigation, as well as how to safely and efficiently cook on a stove. After practicing these basics, they made camp and prepared their own dinner together. The following morning, the pupils packed away their equipment, had breakfast, and headed to Gunung Lambak for their practice hike. This excursion was designed to familiarise them with the challenging terrain and the demands of managing a large pack over distance.

Please be reminded of the upcoming Online Safety Presentation delivered by the Breck Foundation, taking place this Monday, 18th May at 6.00pm. We strongly encourage all parents to join us for the evening session. The session will provide practical advice on recognising the signs of grooming and exploitation, as well as strategies for maintaining a healthy “cyber-balance.”  Please join via this Zoom Link.

We look forward to seeing many of you there as we work together to keep our community safe.

This year’s House Dance Competition has undoubtedly been the biggest and most ambitious yet. Every House significantly upped their game, transforming the stage with elaborate costumes, creative props, dynamic lighting, and even surprise cameos from teacher performers. Over two days of high-energy performances from all ten houses, the competition was narrowed down to five finalists: Butler, Munawir Hill, Morley, Wills, and Sheppard. The level of talent left our resident Dance Teacher, Miss Carol, and Mr Burbury with an incredibly difficult task in deciding which house truly deserves the top spot this year. While the judges deliberated, the audience was treated to a beautiful performance led by Brianne and Yuan Yuan as part of their CAS project. After some tough decision making for the judges, Morley was crowned the winner of this year’s competition, with Munawir Hill and Sheppard coming in second and third place respectively. Well done to everyone for bringing such a high standard and congratulations to Morley.

Apologies for the repetition, but as we come into exam week for Shell, Remove and Lower Sixth, I thought it was worth reminding parents again about the below.

In the lead up to the exams, beaks will be conducting revision lessons in classes and pupils have a valuable opportunity to use their beaks as a resource to help them to prepare.  There is therefore no study leave for any of these year groups and pupils should continue to attend all lessons.

In the evenings and at the weekend you can help them by setting up a distraction free environment in which they can conduct their revision, and to encourage them to take frequent breaks as prolonged periods of study are less effective than the same time with regular breaks (and, particularly for teenagers, snacks).

During the examinations there are three examination sessions each day. Due to the variety of options, there will be periods when your child may not have an exam in a session.  At those times we have supervised study rooms organised, so again pupils should be in school every day for the whole day.

Yours sincerely,
