11th September 2026

Towards the end of last week, we became aware of a small number of pupils experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms, including upset stomachs, diarrhoea and, in some cases, vomiting.

As a precaution, we immediately looked for any common factors and, importantly, considered whether there could be any connection with food served at the College. We therefore commissioned independent laboratory testing of 26 retained food samples from the relevant period.

I am pleased to report that the results were completely clear and there is therefore no microbiological evidence from the samples tested linking the illnesses to food served at the College.

We have continued to monitor the situation closely. A small number of similar cases have occurred over several days, including this week. Having discussed the pattern with health professionals, this is increasingly consistent with a gastrointestinal infection circulating within the community rather than illness associated with a particular meal.

As a sensible precaution, we have increased cleaning and disinfection across the College, particularly in bathrooms, communal areas and frequently touched surfaces. We would also encourage everyone to maintain good hygiene, particularly regular and thorough handwashing with soap and water, avoiding the sharing of drinks or cutlery, and keeping children at home if they are experiencing vomiting or diarrhoea.

We will continue to monitor the situation carefully and follow appropriate public-health guidance. I hope parents will be reassured by the independent laboratory results and the additional precautions we have put in place.
