MCM U18 Boys Volleyball – Wednesday, 24th September

Opposition: Tenby

A fantastic start for the U18 boys with a convincing 3-set victory over Tenby! Captain Zhe Yi led from the front, settling the team after an early 5-point deficit and helping to sharpen up our positioning and rotations. Mathew L was excellent at setter, creating opportunities and feeding some big attacking plays.

Elvis L was consistent from the service line and strong at the net, finishing off some excellent rallies with powerful attacks. A great team performance and plenty to build on. Next stop: the ISKL Twin Towers Tournament in two weeks – great effort, boys!

Coach: Mr A. Kalischer

MCM U18 Girls Volleyball – Wednesday, 24th September

Opposition: Tenby

A strong start from the U18 girls with a three set victory over Tenby. The girls pulled away comfortably in the first set. We then rotated almost the whole team in the second set, but team captain Maia M managed to lead the girls to a narrow victory. We rotated again in the third set and once again won comfortably.

Some strong individual performances but a mention must go to Jocelyn Z; winning some big points with her impressive spiking, which we haven’t seen much of in training. The squad is excited for the ISKL tournament in two weeks time.

Coach: Mr R. Venables

Friday Night Lights Volleyball – Friday, 25th September

Opposition: Staff vs Sixth Form

Friday, 25th September brought the first Friday Night Lights event of the school year, kicking off in style with an energetic volleyball tournament. Four teams – two made up of teachers and two representing the pupils—took to the court to battle it out for ultimate bragging rights. Demonstrating unbeatable chemistry and power, the Sixth Formers put on a dominant display, sweeping through an impressive four-game winning streak to comfortably take home the trophy.

The atmosphere throughout the evening was incredible, filled with loud cheering, high energy, and great sportsmanship from players and spectators alike. It was a fantastic way to start the Friday Night Lights series, setting a high standard for the upcoming events this term. Attention now turns to Friday Night Lights Hockey, which promises to be another thrilling event. We want to keep this brilliant momentum going, so we encourage as many pupils and staff as possible to come down, get involved, and support the teams!

U18 Blues & Whites Netball – Saturday, 26th September

Opposition: U18 Netball Triangular (MCM Blues & Whites, SM TG Puteri Resort, PG Club Netball)

Following a solid few weeks of training, the U18 netball season officially kicked off with a competitive triangular tournament setting designed to put theoretical work into practice. The primary focus of the day was clear: test new positional combinations, build fluidity and movement through the court, and solidify connections under match pressure.

U18 Blues

The U18 Blues delivered a masterclass in clinical netball, sweeping all three of their fixtures with composure and sharpness. Their ability to transition the ball rapidly from defence to attack was a standout feature throughout the day.

  • vs. Whites (13–8 Win): The Blues demonstrated excellent court vision and depth, maintaining control despite a spirited effort from the Whites.
  • vs. Lavender (13–10 Win): A high-tempo, physically demanding clash saw the Blues dig deep, using precise combination play in the circle to secure a hard-fought three-goal victory.
  • vs. SNC (13–2 Win): The Blues hit peak fluidity in this match, pairing a relentless defensive effort with relentless attacking efficiency to restrict the opposition to just two goals.

U18 Whites

While the scoreboard didn’t always reflect their work rate, the U18 Whites showed relentless hustle and impressive adaptability across all three opponents. Trying out fresh line-ups, the team demonstrated noticeable progression in their court movement as each match wore on.

  • vs. Blues (8–13 Loss): The Whites contested this game fiercely, showing great patience in build-up play and contesting every 50/50 ball against a tough Blues line-up.
  • vs. SNC (7–11 Loss): A tight contest where the Whites created plenty of opportunities down the court, showing strong defensive turnovers despite falling just short at the final whistle.
  • vs. Lavender (7–14 Loss): Facing a sharp Lavender attack, the Whites continued to experiment with tactical setups, battling through to the final whistle and gaining valuable competitive match play.

Overall, it was an exceptionally valuable curtain-raiser for the U18 squad. The coaching team will take immense confidence from the chemistry on display, the versatility of the players in different roles, and the positive platform built for the rest of the season.

U15 Touch Fixture – Saturday, 26th September

The girls had been training hard for the last month and were very excited to finally have a fixture after previous opportunities were prevented by the recent bouts of haze. Our strength in depth was highlighted by being able to produce two competitive squads of 12 for this fixture and our focus as coaches was to give everyone as much meaningful gameplay as possible. We understandably started off a little rusty with the first game seeing a scrappy 1-0 victory against our opponents for the day, SMS Kota Tinggi. As the day progressed, the girls began to find their rhythm and put together some of the patterns they had been working on in training, which resulted in a number of excellent tries for and only one try against. This marks an excellent start to the competitive season and a great foundation to build upon over the coming weeks. Standout performers were Yui H., Amelia W. and Rosie A.

Johor Schools Football Cup – Saturday, 26th September

Our annual Johor Schools Football Cup saw MCM host local schools and football teams from Johor, in what is arguably our most competitive tournament of the boys’ football season. 34 teams took part in 95 matches during the morning and early afternoon.

Tournament highlights included the U18 Boys Blues claiming first place, the U15 Boys Blues claiming second place, and an internal Plate final between the U11 Boys Blues and Whites. A wider positive saw just under 100 MCM pupils represent the College.

A big thank you to all the staff involved, without whom these events cannot happen: Sports Admin, Estates, Events, Grounds Staff, Catering, Finance, Beaks, and to all our supporting parents, and of course, the pupils, for making Saturday a successful day.

The U11 Blues kicked off Saturday morning excited as they headed into their first tournament as a team. Facing a challenging group, the boys showed tremendous spirit, resilience, and teamwork throughout an action-packed day.

The opening match proved a tough test, ending in a 4-0 defeat, but Adam and George’s impressive defending kept the scoreline as low as possible. Bouncing back brilliantly in their second game, the team applied the lessons from their opener and put together some brilliant passing moves. Adam set the tone with a cracking free-kick, and standout midfield performances secured a dominant 3-0 victory. Facing the strongest opposition of the day in their final group fixture, the Blues battled hard but fell 6-0, sending them through to the Plate competition.

Re-energised for the Plate semi-final against Nusa Takzim, the team put on a fantastic display, with Rafe stealing the show courtesy of a standout two-goal performance. That victory set up a thrilling final against the MCM Whites, where Harold scored a great goal to leave the match locked at 1-1 at full-time. Demonstrating incredible composure under pressure, the U11 Blues held their nerve in the penalty shootout to win the game, claim the Plate, and proudly take home the medals after an unforgettable debut tournament.

The Under 11 Boys Whites team showed good teamwork, resilience and progress throughout a busy day of football. Despite losing their opening two group-stage matches, the boys gradually grew in confidence as the tournament progressed. A change to a 1-4-1 formation for the third match helped bring greater composure, with the boys showing an improving awareness of space, pressing and passing. They responded well to going 1-0 down against Nusa Takzim, with two late goals from Leon helping to turn the game around and secure an important win. In the Plate Semi-Final, the boys again showed good resilience after falling 1-0 behind. A quick counter-attack allowed Leon to bring the game level, and the team eventually progressed through a penalty shootout. In the Plate Final, the Whites faced fellow MCM team, the Blues, and continued to work hard throughout the match. A well-taken late goal from Aiden brought the score level and took the final to penalties. Although the boys were narrowly beaten in the shootout, they can be pleased with the progress they made throughout the day. Their togetherness, willingness to learn and determination to improve from one game to the next were particularly encouraging.

At the Johor Schools Football Cup, the U13 Boys Blues had a great first opportunity to show their skills. They moved the ball extremely well and played some flowing football. We managed to win the first two games, which we dominated, but struggled to find the back of the net consistently.. We then conceded early goals in games three and four but managed to claim draws through perseverance and grit.

As the morning wore on, the heat and fatigue told the tale as the boys found the final two games a challenge. English College, the eventual winners, were too strong for us both mentally and physically, resulting in a comfortable win. Unfortunately, we were unable to get back a 1-0 scoreline in the final game as well. Despite a sour end, a super morning where we learnt a lot and played some positive football.

The Under 13 Boys White team delivered a positive and constantly improving display of football at the recent Johor Schools Football Cup Tournament, overcoming early challenges with remarkable resilience. Finding their rhythm and confidence was the initial hurdle, but the team’s belief grew significantly with every match played against strong opposition. To build on this progress, the team’s key development target is to consistently exit from the back with clear direction while pressing aggressively to limit the opponent’s time and space. As communication, tactical awareness, and positional play improved with every game, the boys laid a fantastic foundation, with the next step being to bring even more grit and determination to 50/50 challenges – showing that they want to win the ball back. Congratulations to the squad on an outstanding, united effort. You should all be proud of yourselves, and there is certainly much more to come from this promising group!

The U15 Boys Blues got off to a confident start with a 2-0 win over Rocky FC in the opening fixture, with goals from Zach B. and Thomas W. This was backed up with an assured 1-0 victory in the second fixture against Fayza FC with Barnaby S. getting on the scoresheet. In the third game of the morning, man of the match Janeysh V. made a string of fine saves to keep another clean sheet in a hard fought 0-0 draw against English College. The MCM Whites earned our respect in proving stubborn opposition in the fourth match. Quality in midfield from Alfie G. and Charlie R. eventually told in a 1-0 win for the Blues. At this point, we topped the league with one fixture remaining against Kombat FSC. Despite a positive start, the opposition proved to be a physical and well-drilled side, taking a 1-0 win and joining MCM Blues on 10 points at the top of the table. Radu D. looked dangerous in attack throughout the match and was unlucky not to provide the equaliser. This meant we would replay Kombat FSC side in the final and unfortunately they proved too strong in successive matches. Congratulations to the deserved winners. Oscar T. captained the side brilliantly throughout, his work rate and composure setting an example to his team mates. Kintus T. worked tirelessly up front as always showing blistering pace. Nico M. was calm and composed in goal and Nathaniel D. offered skill and dribbling as always. Lots of positives to take forward and some key areas to focus on in training.

Despite a shaky start, the U15 Whites showed immense character and determination to produce some impressive performances as the tournament progressed. With some hard work in defence from Wynne G., Yutan Z. and Lennon H., the team were able to push forward and focus on creating chances. The moment came for us from the spot against Rocky FC and Hugh B. kept his composure to slot home the penalty.

Togetherness and team spirit were the focus of the day, and the boys showed both in abundance. Despite playing challenging opposition, we managed to support one another and keep our heads up. With a focus on shooting from distance in training, and more work on overloading the attack in transition, the U15 Boys Whites have laid a good foundation for the season ahead.

The First Team had a new look for this season opener, with six players making their U18 debuts. With haze and lightning disrupting preparations, the team had to learn quickly in their first matches together. They started brightly with 4-0 victories over Raffles and REAL Schools Johor Bahru, demonstrating key tactical features worked on in Games lessons, which enabled dominant scorelines. An even match against Kolej Vokasional Tanjung Puteri was eventually decided by multiple cheaply conceded free kicks in the closing minutes, resulting in a last-minute 0-1 defeat. A tough internal contest followed against MCM Whites, where goals from Ben L. and Benji B. made the difference in a 2-0 win. The following match presented a final of sorts, knowing that anything less than victory against English College would end hopes of claiming the title. Despite Wayne L. giving MCM the lead, another strike from distance brought the score level. The boys showed real character, calmness of mind and action to reclaim the lead with a Ben L. rebound to then manage the game for a 2-1 victory. This left the title in our hands, with results elsewhere meaning a draw against Kulai Intelek Football Club in the final match would be enough to claim first place. Executing the game plan perfectly, another goal from Wayne L. in the first few minutes gave the boys a cushion, only for some slack defending from a corner to immediately undo it. The game became more frantic, and victory could have been sealed late on but for a terrific double save from the opposition goalkeeper. With a point secured, MCM sealed the title on a tie-break, with a better head-to-head record and goal difference than English College.

The pupils demonstrated excellent learning from their Games lessons in a short and largely disrupted period. Claiming the Johor Schools Football Cup title, becoming the first-ever MCM team to do so at U18 level, will do wonders for their confidence as the season progresses.

As the U18 Whites took to the pitch for their first competitive fixtures of the season, it proved to be an invaluable morning of growth and development. Facing steep early challenges, the squad demonstrated impressive resilience, tactical adaptability, and growing confidence with every passing minute.

The morning opened with tough opposition against Kulai Intelek Football Club and English College. Both opponents put together dominant performances, requiring our boys to defend resolutely for long stretches. A subsequent internal fixture against the Blues proved to be the day’s turning point. A strategic tactical shape change gave the team clearer positional clarity and a stronger foundation. While the result did not go our way, the Whites showed great determination, forcing the Blues to earn both goals.

That defensive solidity paid off in our third match against a strong Kolej Vokasional Tanjung Puteri side, where the boys earned a hard-fought draw and secured their first clean sheet of the day—a massive boost to team morale.

This momentum carried directly into our match against Raffles American School.. A slick sequence of quick one- and two-touch football sent Kou W. through on a 1-v-1 to finish with great composure, before Fawwaz S. capitalised on a high turnover to double the lead and secure a 2–0 victory alongside a second straight clean sheet.

The Whites capped off the morning with a win over REAL Schools Johor Bahru. A brilliant solo run from Fawwaz S. set up Kou W. for the decisive finish, closing out the day with a third consecutive clean sheet and back-to-back wins.

The boys returned home with spirits high. Their willingness to fight for each other and their eagerness to learn were exemplary, and they look forward to carrying this momentum into next weekend’s fixtures at JSAC.

U18 Netball vs Combined Schools South African Team at Dulwich College Singapore – Tuesday, 29th September, 2026

Result: 11-35

In a thrilling and highly competitive fixture, our netball first team faced a tough test against a formidable Combined Schools South African Touring Team. We extend our sincere gratitude to Dulwich College, Singapore for hosting us so warmly and organising a fantastic event.

From the first whistle, the intensity was electric. The South African side brought immense pressure to the court—displaying trademark physicality, athleticism, and sharp tactical execution. Confronted with such a relentless work rate, our team was forced to think on their feet and adapt rapidly whenever early tactical plans were disrupted.

Despite the scoreline, our defensive performance was a major highlight of the match. The defensive circle showed remarkable grit under constant threat. Connie proved to be a fantastic addition to the backline, seamlessly slotting in alongside Iman. Together, the duo forged a potent defensive partnership—putting on relentless pressure, successfully disrupting the opposition’s quick ball movement, and forcing crucial errors to slow down the pace of the game.

While the result didn’t go our way, the fixture offered invaluable exposure to international-standard netball. Taking on such physical and tactical opposition pushed us out of our comfort zone, offering vital lessons in resilience and adaptability that will undoubtedly sharpen our game for the rest of the season.

U13 & U11 Boys Badminton – Wednesday, 30th September

Opposition: Raffles

The U13 and U11 Boys badminton team made the short journey to neighbouring Raffles for a competitive friendly singles and doubles tournament. Facing a tough test against opponents that included players up to 17 years old, the boys demonstrated huge amounts of grit and determination throughout. The singles tournament was an exceptionally tight affair, with the boys playing a total of 54 games and securing 27 victories to hold their opponents to a well-earned overall draw.

Carrying that momentum into the doubles, the boys stepped up their performance even further, putting together some fantastic court coverage and teamwork to win 7 out of their 10 matches. This sealed an impressive overall victory against a much older and more experienced team, serving as a brilliant showcase of their skill and resilience.
