Following a highly successful STEM Racing season, a group of MCM pupils received an extraordinary invitation to experience a Formula 1 Grand Prix pit lane walk, offering them a rare glimpse behind the scenes of elite motorsport.
Representing MCM’s STEM Racing teams, the pupils were able to walk among the F1 garages, see the cars at close quarters and observe engineers and mechanics preparing for a Grand Prix weekend. For our young engineers, it was an exciting opportunity to see the science, technology, engineering and teamwork of Formula 1 in action.
Ryan Y. described the experience as “unforgettable” and particularly enjoyed seeing the cars and engineers working up close. Ananda G. even found himself mistaken for an F1 driver and asked for his autograph!
Filial L. captured more than 200 photographs during the visit and highlighted meeting F1 drivers Valtteri Bottas, Ollie Bearman, Fernando Alonso and Charles Leclerc outside their garages as a particular highlight.
For the students, this was far more than simply seeing Formula 1 cars. It provided a direct connection between their work in MCM STEM Racing and the extraordinary engineering, data analysis, precision and teamwork required at the highest level of international motorsport.
A huge thank you to STEM Racing and Formula 1 for providing our students with this remarkable, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
